Rear elevation, first floor, mid-position.

Sp4 is the plastic conduit again, Sp5 is the external light (manual operation) and Sp2 is the glass.

Relative insulation weaknesses are self-evident including density of insulation.

If anyone would like to see different areas highlighted (temperature readings) on an image, let me know.

Note that there will be a cavity closure (brickwork) at Sp3 as was standard in construction and the red line next to the window indicates that. In modern construction a thermal barrier cavity closure is employed to eliminate the thermal-bridge as it is called.

Another delightfully obvious Picture in Picture as referred to previously. Rear elevation left between the frames.

This again confirms the endoscope evidence, or, if you prefer, the endoscope evidence confirms the effectiveness of the thermal imaging (first floor).

Having had my previous home insulated I felt sure (subjective I know) that the volume of insulation used here was far less than my previous home. However evidence now seems to confirm my suspicions.

The question is, is this typical. As someone mentioned to me this morning and I did myself previously in this journal, is this the next PPI scandal ? One thing is certain, more people already know about this problem than is being acknowledged. I suspect this is the reason that CIGA, the alleged Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency never answered my polite questions. They realised which way I was heading. As the industry appears to be policing itself, I am not now surprised.

I wonder what the Energy Saving Trust (EST) is making of all this. They must know or ought to know what is going on. Some of their useful PDF data hints at ways and means to detect shortcomings. Ways and means that should be in the fancy looking BBA certificate; all feathers and no meat ?

If the EST is genuinely concerned about conservation, it is perhaps time they emerged from behind this conspiracy of silence and took a lead. I will certainly not give up until I get what I paid for.

  Front elevation, top right.

Bottom right, rear elevation.

It is a pity I did not accept the Government grant I was offered. I could then have enrolled the Audit Commission to investigate what could be an industry-wide fraud. But they could anyway with the benefit of my lead on the subject. Others have had grants.

Perhaps it will be swept under the carpet like all the other scandals including Savile, Hillsborough, PPI, Libor, (alleged) marital coercion, bullying, harassment and endless others.

One thing is certain. If you have had blown-in mineral wool cavity wall insulation, the chances are it will be as badly done as mine. Do not take my word for it. Read this PDF file by the well known Kingspan.

If I was British Gas I would be taking a long hard look at the British Board of Agrément certification and asking if it is fit for the purpose.
